Caleb Sweazy: News, Whatnot
I heart Toronto - June 11, 2007
Thanks to everyone who was at the show on Saturday for making it such a great experience. NXNE was my first festival and I really enjoyed it. I guess it's because they laughed at my jokes and clapped at my songs. I had a great time. Those Canadians are really as friendly as everyone says. They just don't pour their drinks strong enough...really, a bakers dozen of Jack and Coke and I was still mostly sober. Maybe I should've asked for Canadian Mist...but really...I just couldn't.
Thank you again Canada. I can't wait to play there again.
New Release Date! - June 2, 2007
So we've pushed back the release date. Goodbye Bonneville will hit the streets on July 10th.
The same day in 1964 that The Beatles release 'Hard Day's Night'.
Coincidence? Yes, but you'll notice that you never see Paul McCartney and myself in the same room at the same time...
Goodbye Bonneville out on June 5 - May 6, 2007
The new album comes out on June 5. I'm so excited to get this thing out. I'll let you know where you can pick it up.
Pray for rain - February 1, 2007
It's February here in the Tennessee Valley which means there is a very slight chance of snow. Snow seems to avoid Memphis. It could be the gunfire. I'm not a scientist. But when there is a threat of wintery precipitation the news revs into high gear. It's exactly like Los Angeles in the rainy season. The news casters wander the streets looking for car accidents and huddled masses. The menacing radar glows on the screens of the fearful. People pile into grocery stores, stocking up on bread and milk like the huns are at the gate. Currently there's not enough snow to cover my unraked leaves. But I've stocked up on wine and Leonard Cohen just in case. That's the kind of old man I'm turning into.
Music for babies. - November 16, 2006
So look here. For those who don't know me, I'l tell you now. I'm gonna be a daddy. There are concerns about impending parenthood. The most pressing being, whose musical taste will this child inherit. At some point in gestation a little genome switch will be thrown and that childs musical future will start forming...in utero...it's science. My wife and I see eye to eye on many things but when it comes to music our paths rarely cross. I like the dark alleys and dusty trails of Tom Waits and Hank Williams. She wouldn't mind a stroll along well groomed beats and clean, tree lined streets of a Zero 7 or Olivia Newton John. I like it ugly, she likes it pretty. That there's what it is.
So there we are sitting in a darkened theater waiting for "The Departed" to start when we hear what I consider the best rock song ever recorded. "Gimme Shelter". The guitar, soul singer chorus, and the sexiest rythym in rock history. Those drum come in and I just gotta start shakin'. That's when my wife felt our baby kick for the first time. Our baby started kickin' just like daddy. It's an off kilter, just might be falling over but still with the beat kinda dance. Dammit I've never been so filled with pride. Our baby made a stand. God bless the Rolling Stones! My baby loves rock and roll.
YouTube - October 26, 2006
I know, I know. If I was any good at being an egocentric artist I'd have put something up on YouTube by now. But the honest truth is...I just don't want to take any precious YouTube bandwidth away from Buster Keaton. I'd could watch Buster Keaton for hours. Modern movies are fine and good. You can round up a gaggle of square-jawed, six-packed members of Hollywoods finest who claim to do their own stunts, but nobody beats Buster Keaton.
Memphis LAMF - October 12, 2006
Holy Crap I live in Memphis. Still adjusting to the new city. Trying to book some gigs. And I'm putting the finishing touches on the album. Stay tuned.
